Georgetown : As the unusual heavy rainfall continues, information continues to pour in to TrakkerNews of flooding is several areas across the country. Some residents along the East Coast of Demerara this morning said water has began to rise in there yards reaching more than 12 inches. They claimed although the relevant authorities have pumps in place but are not in operation when the water builds up. It is either the pump attendant is not there or the pump not working.
Residents of Canal and by extension Parthfaith Harmony on the West Bank of Demerara said they cannot send their children to school since the graded road is covered with water and they cannot locate the where the road is from the trench.
One resident from Uitvlugt on the West Coast of Demerara said the public road is covered with water and motorist finds it difficult to traverse.
There are reports of flood waters in sections of the capital city Georgetown.
City engineer Walter Willis told TrakkerNews that with all the sluces and pumps along the East Cost of Demerara, about 40 plus, only one and a half inches of water can drain off within a 24 hr period taking into consideration the tide at the time.
Last Night Agriculture Minister Leslie Ramsammy claims that precautionary measures were in place to avoid flooding countrywide over the past four days.
A Government source confirmed to TrakkerNews that 10 pumps, five stationary and five mobile have been acquired by the Government but this will be in full operation in 15 to 18 months time.
