Cleric tells Barbadians not to be overcome by fear

Bridgetown.

An Anglican cleric has advised Barbadians not to allow fear to get the better of them.

Delivering a sermon yesterday at the St George Parish Church to mark the commencement of 2013 Week of Excellence, Cannon Gregston Gooding said the only antidote for fear is faith in God and he urged Barbadians not to let fear dicate their paths.

"We live in fearful times, the television, the print media, all remind us how dangerous a place our world is, the ravages of natural disasters, such as hurricanes, earthquakes, droughts, floods, the scourge of war, civil unrest and domestic violence", Gooding said.

The cannon told the congreagation that while fear is not necessarily bad because it is a human emotion, it can become unhealthy and trigger aggressive and inappropriate behaviour.

"The remedy for fear is faith in God. Faith in God is much more powerful it is much more potent than fear. Yes, we live  in this world and we are affected by the things that will occur in the world but this world does not have the final say in what happens to us God does", he added.

The service was attended by several members of the Social Partnership.
