There is a sense of unease among temporary clerical officers in the Public Service after a circular was issued by the Personnel Administration Division inviting suitably qualified persons to apply for temporary and permanent appointments for the vacant posts of clerical officer.
Senior Industrial Relations Officer with the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW), Wayne Walrond told Trakker News the union has been receiving numerous calls from temporary clerical officers who have been employed in the public service for, in some instances, as long as eight years.
Some clerical officers believe the process would be used to terminate their services, while others question the process after being in the public service for several years.
The NUPW has met jointly with the Ministry of the Civil Service and the Personnel Administration Division to raise concerns regarding the situation.
It has also summoned all temporary clerical officers to an emergency general meeting at the NUPW headquarters this afternoon to discuss the outcome of that meeting.
