Minister of Finance, Chris Sinckler yesterday said that the Government remains committed to ensuring that the policyholders and depositors in CLICO have their investments protected.
Speaking in the House of Assembly during the 2011 Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure Sinckler said."This Government remains committed to ensuring that the policyholders and depositors in CLICO are protected that is our sole responsibility".
"Since becoming Minister of Finance, I have deliberately tried not to be engage in the excessive public discourse on this matter, he added."
Sinckler was critical of the Opposition and the media's handling of the issue and urged them not to whip up a public frenzy.
Leader of the Oposition Owen Arthur, in a stinging rebuttal sated that he would have handle the situation differently if he was the Minister of Finance.
According to Arthur the CLICO matter was not just an emotive one, but a troubling issue in respect of equity.
