Clinging To Life

Antigua : Distraught relatives of a bus driver left clinging to life after being shot multiple times in a robbery Monday night are urging the perpetrators to come forward.

Erie Allen’s sister issued an emotional appeal  last night to the duo who critically injured the 34 year old, asking them to come forward and confess their crime to police.

The family now faces an excruciating wait as medics keep a watchful eye on Allen and assess his chances of recovery. The next few hours, they have been told, will be critical. Relatives also called on residents to assist police in the probe.

“We want those people who hurt Erie or anybody else who knows what happened, whether they saw or heard, to go to the police and tell them everything about my brother’s shooting. We want this thing to be solved,” a sister said, on condition her name wouldn’t be released.

As Allen’s life hangs in the balance in Mount St John’s intensive care unit (ICU), another relative, who also did not want to be named as the shooters remain on the run, said the act was cruel and unconscionable.

The relative said Allen was shot multiple times in the abdomen and that vital organs – including his kidneys – have been badly damaged.

According to the relative, the injured bus driver is on life support as he is not breathing on his own.

Allen operates Bus 93 and had just arrived home around 7:30 pm when the robbers struck.
