Coast Guard tells fishermen it’s ok to fish despite curfew

Felicity: Fishermen are being told that they can venture out to sea during the curfew horus but with a few restrictions.

The Coast Guard made the announcement at the daily police press briefing, saying they are now embarking on an education drive to ensure the fishing trade is not adversely affected.

Many fishermen had feared that they would suffer huge losses because of the State of Emergency, but the Coast Guard is assuring that fishermen's fears are unfounded and they are being advised that they can continue to go out to sea even during the curfew hours.

Coast Guard Commander Douglas Archer says while fishing boats are restricted under the regulations, there are still provisions in their favour. He says  fishermen can identify their location before the 11 pm curfew kicks in, and remain there for its duration.

He says they are also free to fish outside the three-mile radius, which does not include the waters between Trinidad and Tobago.
