Georgetown: Mashramani Day fire victims of Plaisance East Coast Demerara received food hampers from ‘C’ Division (East Coast Demerara) Commander, Senior Superintendent Edmond Cooper and his ranks on Monday at the Plaisance Community Centre Ground.
Twenty four food hampers were distributed as the commander gave words of encouragement to the victims noting that he will continue to give his support to persons within the division, noting that police must also do their part in assisting the vulnerable.
Commander Cooper said that a house fire is a tragic, unexpected and traumatic experience that can leave a family without a home, their valuable or sentimental possessions. After such an event, it is important to join forces to help fire victims rebuild their lives. This can be done by donating basic necessities.
He explained that fires can destroy lives and livelihoods in the blink of an eye, regardless of whether they stay confined to one house or spread throughout a wide area. When the fire victims are people you know, offers of personal help can mean a lot. If you want to help fire victims you don’t know, you can usually donate food, or supplies through third party organizations.
The fire victims all expressed gratitude at the gesture of the commander and his ranks.
