Construction enquiry costs state $46 million

Port-of-Spain: The Commission of Enquiry into the local construction sector cost tax payers just over $46 million, leader of Government Business in the House of Representatives Dr Roodal Moonilal said today.

Minister Moonilal gave the House a breakdown of the legal costs after questions from the Opposition on the matter.
 
A large chunk of the went to attorneys representing the state-owned Urban Development Company of Trinidad and Tobago, Udecott, Frank Solomon, Devish Maharaj and Associates. On attorney got as much as $15 million, while another was given $11 million.
 
The chairman of the Commission Professor John Uff received S4.5 million dollars while each of the three commissioners, Senior Counsel Isreal Khan, Desmond Thornhill and Kenneth Sirju were paid $600,000 each.

Dr moonilal said the Ministry of Housing also commissioned a report from forensic auditor Bob Linquist on the Clever Heights Project and paid over $400,000 for it but never received the report.
