The owner of a leading construction company has stated his interest in buying Almond Beach Hotel.Bjorn Bjerkhamn, the owner of Jada Construction Limited, has publicly delcared his intentions to buy the hotel.
"We are Bajans, we are not Jamaicans nor are we Canadians" says Bjerkhamn in obvious reference to the main bidders Jamaican Gordon "Butch" Stewart of the Sandal Group and Canadian Paul Doyle owner of the Crane Resort.
Bjerkhamn, the chairman of Jada Construction Limited has been involved in the construction of a number of hotels and villas on the West Coast of Barbados.
He is a major shareholder of residential development and marina Port St Charles in St Peter and the soon to be competed competed Port Ferdinand.
According to Bjerkhamn, he and his associates would save the jobs of the 500 Almond Beach workers who are scheduled to loose their jobs at monthend when the hotel closed.
"It is not a play play thing to just shut a a hotel and put so many people out of work.We would try to get Almond Beach up and running as soon as possibe and put the hotel rooms back into action", Bjerkhamn said.
