Controversial Amaila Falls road completion pushed to April 2012

Georgetown : Plagued by controversy ever since it was awarded to Makeswar ‘Fip’ Motilall of Synergy Holdings Inc, the US15.4M Amaila Falls Road Project is in even more problems as Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr Roger Luncheon has conceded that the completion date has yet again been pushed back.
Dr Luncheon, during a post Cabinet Press briefing today told media operatives that the new completion date for the project is March or April in 2012.
Dr Luncheon further stated that it has been agreed in principal by Motilall, the consultants and the Government of Guyana that Fip will have to end up sub-contracting sections of the road so that they can be completed in a more timely fashion.
The HPS told media operatives yesterday that this and other interventions would be able to allow for the completion by the now mooted completion date in March or April of 2011.
As it relates to the percentage of the US$15.4M has been paid over to Synergy Holdings Inc for works already completed he was unable to provide this information but says that it can be had at a later date.
Dr Luncheon was also unable at the time to say how much of the road has already been completed by the controversial contractor.
Motilall had earlier this year promised that he would seek to pave a way to have media operatives travel to the site and view the ongoing works amidst the controversy enveloping the road contract.
Synergy Holdings Inc is the company that has been contracted to build the Road to the Amaila Falls which is going to pave the way for the construction of the Amaila Falls Hydro Electric Plant.
That project despite not having taken off as yet and is yet to secure financial closure has already been engulfed in its share of controversy as the price tag continues to escalate having doubled from USS400M to now US$835M.
