Cops charged with murder granted bail

Kingston.
Two policemen who are facing murder charges will have to post sureties of $700,000 before they are  granted bail. Justice Bryan Sykes made the order in the Home Circuit Court yesterday.

The two lawmen Corporal David Hutchinson and Constable Kenneth Daley were charged with the murder of Derrick Bolton and Rohan Dixon in Tredegar Park, St Catherine. They were  were charged with the double murder following a ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Hutchinson is being represented by attorney-at-law Valerie Neita-Robertson while Daley is represented by attorney-at-law Peter Champagnie.

Bolton, 16, and Dixon were allegedly shot by the police on August 13, 2010. It was reported that the police were chasing gunmen who had earlier killed eight persons in Tredegar Park. The Crown is alleging that shortly before Bolton and Dixon were fatally shot, voices were heard saying that these were the men causing trouble in the area.

The lawyers, in applying for bail, argued that identification parades were held in September 2010 and the policemen were not pointed out. They said the policemen also submitted themselves to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and the Bureau of Special Investigations for various queries.
