Coroner backs monitoring proposal

Bridgetown.

A week after Commissioner of Police Darwin Dottin called fetes "incubators of crime". Corner Faith Marshall-Harris, has repeated the call for parties to be closely monitored.

The island's lone coroner made the comment yesterday after delivering a verdict of "unlawful  killing in the death of Holbert Ricardo Davis, who was shot to death on Christmas Day 2008, while attending a fete.

Davis was gunned down went an angry Dwayne Herbert, who was attending the party fired off a volley of shots after the police pulled the plug on the music.

Marshall-Harris pointed out that Herbert engaged in what was called "licking shots" in the direction of the DJ after the police ended the music around 2.30am.

"His actions led to the death of an innocent party goer, these fetes need to be closely monitored", she stated.

Hurbert became a fugitive from justice, and fled to St Vincent where  he was killed  during a police operation in 2009.

Last week, Commissioner of Police, Darwin Dottin speaking at a Press conference said that fetes are a source of public disorder and  incubators for crime and something must be done about them.
