Berbice. The Berbice Chamber of Commerce has commenced plans for the much anticipated Corporate Business in Sports (CBIS) calendar event amongst the corporate entities in the county.
The event which will be staged for the third straight year is aimed at promoting unity and fostering better working relationships among entities and the public at large. This year’s event is planned for October 27 at a venue to be confirmed.
According to President of the Berbice Chamber of Commerce, Imran Saccoor since the introduction of CBIS which is an arm of the BCC, it was revealed that business relationships amongst several companies have improved since employees were able to know and interact with each other, and eliminating barriers that had existed in the past.
This year’s event will also incorporate an exhibition five-a-side cricket competition amongst corporate managers, all for the purpose of unity and fostering better relationships.
Several teams have already confirmed their participation, including the Oldendorff Carriers, Republic Bank, New Building Society, Metro Office, Nand Persaud, Neal and Massay, Banks DIH, DDL amongst others.
Fans will be in for a big treat with the live band, cheerleaders and an exhibition 20/20 game featuring all the current and past cricket stars, including the Crandons, Chatergoons, Andre Percival, Rajiv Ivan, Renwick Batson, the Fudadins, Devendra Bishoo, Jonathan Foo, Brandon Bess, among others.
The final will be played under floodlights with fireworks and more forming part of the overall entertainment package. A patron will also have an opportunity to walk away with a brand new Honda motorcycle that is up for the winning.
Admission to the venue will be by way of a raffle ticket that costs $300; gates will be opened from 09:30hours.
The BCC will continue to serve the community and all the monies raised from the event will go toward charitable works and development of facilities for young people and children.
Memorex are the defending champions, while NBS claimed the runner up spot, along with Metro and Nand Persaud copping third and fourth places respectively.
