A emergency response training programme for regional prison officers began at Her Majesty's Dodds, St Philip, yesterday.
Co-ordinator Assistant Superintendent DeCarlo Payne says the programme was part of Caribbean Basin Initiative and involved seven countries.
"We are trying to standardize training through observing international best practice as well as to forge better inter-regional and inter-agency cooperation", Payne told Trakker News.
He said some of the courses the prison officers would be taking included small team riot control formations, defensive tactics, cell extractions, search restrains, escort procedures and baton techniques.
Prison Officers from Barbados, Antigua, Dominica, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada are attending the course which is being sponsored by the Government of the United States.
