Essequibo : Investigations are being conducted into the circumstances surrounding the death of Vibert Fernandes, 60 years, of Queenstown, Essequibo Coast, which occurred today on the M.V Sairland in the Demerara River.
The police say that a crew member was operating an excavator aboard the vessel when the machine malfunctioned causing the boom to fall. The boon fell onto a piece of wood which was thrown into the air and struck Vibert Fernandes, who was also a crew-member on the boat, to his body.
He later succumbed.
