Cricket legend knighted

Former outsatnding West Indian fast bowler Wesley Winfield Hall  has been granted a knighthood   in the Queen Birthday Honours list.

Sir Wesley 74,  was the spearhead of the West Indies bowling attack in the late 1950s and 1960s, played 48 test matches between 1958 and 1968 taking 192 wickets.

Tall and muscular with classical action, Sir Wesley was a fearsome prospect especially in partnership with Charlie Griffith in the 1960s.

Sir Wesley 's hatrick  in second Test against Pakistan at Daca Stadium in 1959 was the first by a West Indian in test cricket. After he retired from the game, Sir Wesley served West Indies cricket as a manager of West Indies team, selector and president  of the West Indies Cricket Board.

In the 1986 General Elections, Sir Wesley was elected to Parliament and was appointed Minister of Tourism and Sport by the then  Prime Minister Errol Barrow after the Democratic Labour Party was returned to office.

In 1996  Sir Wesley was ordained as a minister of   religion.
