Cricketers behind bars – unable to raise bail

Port-of-Spain: Trinidad and Tobago batsman Runako Morton and Leeward Islands batsman Tonito Willet are both tonight behind bars at the Port-of-Spain Royal Jail after the the two failed to post bail of $100,000 each on charges of possession of marijuana.

Nicole Brunche, 37 and Jannel Thomas, 25, who were with the cricketers when the drugs were found, are also in prison.

They all appeared before Port-of-Spain magistrate, Debbie-Ann Bassaw charged with the possession of 407 grams of marijuana on March 12th.

Police officers on mobile patrol along the Lady Young Road in Morvant, north Trinidad, observed the driver of a Nissan B15 car acting in a suspicious manner. The vehicle was pulled over and a search was conducted.

The magistrate suspended the passports belonging to the cricketers because of concerns raised by the prosecution that they may be flght risks and had granted them bail of $100,000 each.

However none of the accused was able to raise the funds for bail.
