Bridgetown.
Crime in Barbados, is not a legal problem but a social one, this opinion was expressed by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart yesterday at the Democratic Labour Party 56th annual conference, held at the party's headquarters in George Street. St Michael.
In his address to party members and supporters on the final day of the conference, Stuart said that the Barbados of yesterday was no more, he called on law-abiding Barbadians not allow the criminal element to get the upper hand.
"Crime is not a legal problem but a social problem.Criminals do not check the law to see what it says before they commit a crime. They do not check police numbers to see whether it is safe to break into a home, nor do they call a press conference to announce their intentions", Stuart said.
Stuart said the task of the citizen of modern Barbados, was to make life as difficult as possible for those with criminal intent by by creating as few opportunities as possible for them.
