Georgetown: Guyana’s Ambassador to Cuba, Halim Majeed, has been in discussions with the Cuban Rice Importing Agency, ALIMPORT, to explore increasing Guyana’s rice exports to Cuba this year.
During last month, Mr. Ragindra Persaud, Chairman of the Nand Persaud Group of Companies, and Ambassador Majeed met with ALIMPORT in Havana, Cuba, to review the current state of Cuba’s rice imports and it was agreed in principle that Cuba could absorb some 130,000 metric tonnes of rice from Guyana.
During last month also, Ambassador Majeed met with Mr. Feyaad Hack of ACHS at his Cane Grove and Bush Lot Rice Mills, Region Five, to explain that Rice Millers would have to be prepared to supply the Cuban market in a timely manner.
Mr. Majeed also, subsequently, met with Mr. Tamesh Jagmohan, President of Pure Harvest, Inc., that has recently acquired two rice mills in Essequibo and Mahaicony.
