Customs officers have the right to search anyone at the airport or seaport in Barbados.

This view was expressed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Senator Maxine McClean this afternoon.

Speaking on a call-in program this afternoon, Senator McClean said , under the laws of Barbados a customs officer have the right to conduct a boddy search, if the officer suspect the person is carrying restricted or illicit goods on their body.

Senator McClean stressed that under the law, a customs officer cannot be prosecuted for searching a person's body.

She added that at no time should a body cavity be searched.

 "At no time during a body search should there be an insertion into a body cavity", says McClean.
