Georgetown : Cabinet has approved the payment of money owed to the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) for shifting the dates that were set for the administering of the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) subjects to facilitate the holding of the May 11, 2015 elections.

Minister of State Joseph Harmon said that Government has been granted a US$20,000 discount off of the original sum owed, US$385,000.

According to Mr. Harmon, government approached CXC and requested a review of the cost after which a decision was made by the regional examining body to discount US$20,000.

It was explained that although the previous Government had incurred the cost, no arrangements were made to facilitate the payment. The issue was brought to Cabinet by Minister of Education, Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine, on June 16, Minister Harmon stated.

“There is a commitment by Government to pay that sum of money because of its importance to the youths and children of this country,” Minister Harmon stated.
