CXC not involved in dispute with union

Bridgetown.

The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) is not involved in any dispute with the Barbados Secondary Teacher's Union (BSTU).

Assistant  Registrar Public Information and Customer Services  with CXC Cleveland Sam told Trakker News that contrary to reports in the media.

The purported issue is an examination administration matter which has been dealt with by CXC and the Ministry of Education.

"All CXC regulations were applied to every candidate sitting its examinations in all 19 territories in which the tests were offered in order to ensure the integrity of the examinations remained intact", Sam said.

The problem began after Christ Church Foundation School did not submit a sample of five Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) School Based Assessments (SBA) to CXC in the allotted time.

As a result, the entire class of 60 students was marked "ungraded" and will have to resit the exam as CXC has this year enforced an absolute deadline for SBA submissions for no later than the end of July.

However, the BSTU thought this was unfair action ; it said  CXC did not properly commumicate its intention to enforce a strict deadline, unlike in years past.

The BSTU charged that Christ Church Foundation was unintentionally discriminated against by the failture of CXC to implement its reminders uniformly.
