The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) will conduct a study to examine the factors that impacted on academic achievement throughout the region.
Pro Registar of CXC Glenroy Cumberbatch, made this disclosure while addressing a stakeholders meeting to explore factors contributing to the decline in the performance of students sitting the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) in Mathematics and English Language.
According to Cumberbatch, the pass rate for English Language dropped to 46 percent down from 63.9 last year, while 31.7 percent students who sat Mathematics attained passes, a slight reduction from the 33.2 percent pass rate in 2011.
Cumberbatch said while there are no clear reasons for the decline, some of the contributing factors could include misinterpretation of questions, inadequate responses and preparation of students to sit the test.
