The police are warning women to be careful when accepting drinks while partying or in social settings after two women claimed they were the victims of a date rape drug.i
Public Relations Officer of the Royal Barbados Police Force Inspector David Welch, told Trakker News that detectives are investigating two rape reports in which the women said they were drugged and then molested.
According to Welch, In one case the woman was at a house with a friend and on the other ocasion the victim had attended a fete.
“We are concerned by what was reported. What we are seeing in the cases is that they were drinking and then became incapacitated. Someone had slipped something into their drinks,” says Welch
The drug being used is suspected to be rohypnol, a popular date-rape drug from the 1990s used by men who slipped it into women drink and afterwards sexually molested them.
Part of the effect of the drug, which is also known as the “forget pill”, is that it initially causes users to be excited and disinhibited and leaves them with amnesia. As a result, victims do not remember what happens for a period after ingesting the drug.
In the two cases reported to the police, the two women said they felt strange after drinking the beverages and had not memory after they regain conscious.
