Death sentence for man who murdered US-based businesswoman

Georgetown: Imran Ramsaywack also known as ‘Kevin Jones’, ‘Coolie Boy’ or ‘Ramsa’ of Lot 7, Adelphi Village East Canje, Berbice was sentenced to death on Thursday for the murder of 45-year-old United States-based Guyanese businesswoman Samantha Benjamin, whose dismembered body was found at the Buxton Seawalls, East Coast Demerara in 2015.

He was sentenced before by Justice Sandil Kissoon moments after a 12-member jury found him guilty.

According to reports, Benjamin was killed in a house at Middle Walk, Buxton, on March 25, 2015 and her body was dismembered and subsequently dumped into the Atlantic Ocean, along the same village. It was discovered the following morning with the head, arms and legs missing. The body parts were subsequently discovered in the Atlantic Ocean after waters receded.

State Counsel Abigail Gibbs and State Counsel Mandel Moore are appearing for the prosecution.

Ramsaywack was represented by Ravindra Mohabir while the State was represented by prosecutors Abigail Gibbs and Mandel Moore.

The Judge stated that he found no mitigating factors and noted that Benjamin’s death was a “cold, bloodied, calculated robbery with escalated into murder.” He also considered the violence that was inflicted onto Benjamin along with the efforts of Ramsaywack to dispose of her dismembered body.
