Bridgetown.
Leader of the Opposition Owen Arthu,r says the demise of Almond Beach is symptomatic of what is happening across the sector where many hotels are on the bink of bankruptcy.
Speaking during the nomination meeting for the Barbados Labour Party constituency, Arthur said: "Things are closing around us and not a word from the Government. What is happening with Almond is not only as a result of the international economic recession".
"What is happening must be understood, selling a tourism product at heavily discounted prices in Barbados with our wage rates will put Barbados' tourism in perl", he argued.
Almond Beach Village, the single largest hotel property on the island closes at the end of the month.
