Port of Spain: Police Service Commission Chairman Ramesh Deosaran says six months on the job is not sufficient time to effect meaningful change. He was responding to a call by Police Social and Welfare (P.S.W.) President Anand Ramesar for the performance of Police Commissioner Dwayne Gibbs to be assessed.
Deosaran said that it would be unfair to measure Mr Gibbs’s performance given that he has only just begun. He said he will be meeting with Mr Gibbs to ensure that he has suitable systems in place; however, he does not believe it is fair at this time to demand strict and full accountability. In response to the P.S.W.’s request to have the assessment opened to the members of the police service and the public he said while he has no problem with the suggestion, there must be some guidelines to ensure a smooth process.
