The police are investigating the reported kidnapping of Brazilian Gold and Diamond Dealer Sergio Martos, 35 years, of Duncan Street, Bel Air Park, Georgetown, which occurred at about 12:15 am today at Stone Avenue, Campbelville, Georgetown.
Sergio Martos was driving his motor vehicle along Stone Avenue when a motor car drove up and he was confronted by four men, one of whom pointed a firearm at him and forced him into their vehicle which drove away. The men then demanded that Sergio Martos provide a ransom and he made a call for the money to be brought to his captors.
In the interim the police were notified and launched an investigation into the matter.
The perpetrators later told Martos that someone had reported the matter to the police and they proceeded to assault him and took him to the Soesdyke/Linden Highway where he was released with his hands and feet bound.
Sergio Martos managed to hop from among the bushes until he got within sight of the roadway at Hararuni where he was observed by passengers in a mini-bus. He was taken to the Police Highway Patrol Outpost and subsequently brought to Georgetown where he was medically treated at a private hospital and sent away.
