Bridgetown.
The second Diaspora begin Barbados yeterday at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre with United States based Barbadian genealogist Sandra Taitt- Eaddy, encouraging Barbadians not to be ashamed of their background of slavery.
Taitt-Eaddy made the comments during the presentation of a paper entitle "Ancestry Research": An Introduction.
"To think that slavery was about what was done to us is a mistake,it is about what we were able to do to it and survived. When I look at all that these people had to overcome and that we are still here, we must never forget we are here because they chose to live.", Taitt-Eaddy said.
"We need to begin to value our ancestors and what they have persevered to make sure that generations later we can still be here", she added.
Over 100 persons attended the opening day of the conference, they were given several tips to help them trace their family history..
