Veteran calypsonian and folk singer Anthony ( Gabby) Carter, received an honorary degree at the annual graduation of the University of the West Indies (UWI) held at the Wildey Gymnasium of the Garfield Sobers Complex this morning.
Gabby, 62, is the youngest person to win a calypso title in Barbados at the age of 19 in 1968,1976, 1985,1999,2000 and 2010 and was Folk Singer of the Year in 1977,1978 and 1979.
He won the first Road March Competition with "Burn Mr Harding in 1979 and has written over 700 songs.
I would like to thank the UWI and all of the artistes who have worked with me over the years, this is a very emotional time for me",Gabby told journalists after the ceremony.
