Billy Doctrove, the lone West Indian umpire on the International Cricket Council (ICC) Elite panel has retired from umpiring .
Doctrove 56, has citing a hectic travel schedule and family commitments as the reason for his decision, he stood in 38 Test, 112 One Day Internationals(ODIs and 17 Twenty20 internationals.
"It has been something that I have been considering for a while now. The nature of the job is one that takes me away from my family very often. I have been travelling long distances and taking long drives. Now these things are begining to take a toll on me", says Doctrove.
He was due to stand in the ODI and Test series between Sri Lanka and Pakistan which started in Pallekele yesterday but withdrew after the death of a familly member forced him to return to Dominica.
Doctrove made his ODI debut in St Vincent in1998, two years later he stood in his first test match. He was elevated to the Elite panel of umpires in 2004.
