Bridgetown.
Commissioner of Police, Darwin Dottin, today told Barbadians not to panic despite an increase in violent crime across the island.
In his opening remarks at a press conference held at Police Headquarter in Bridgetown, Dottin said the public must place trust in the Royal Barbados Police Force.
The top cop said that crime on the island has been reduced by eight percent up to August 6, he added that 22 murders have been committed this year.
Most of them were as the result of personal disputes in the home, quarrels at fetes, drugs and robberies gone bad says Dottin.
He expressed concern about the fete menatality on the island and suggested that the time has come to control the number of fetes taking place on the island.
"There is no need to panic let us work together to address some of the problems that have been affecting the country recently", Dottin said.
