School leavers will face a double challenge when they try to enter the workforce this year.
According to Senator Harry Husbands, parliamentary secretary in the Prime Minister office, children leaving school this year will not only be competing with each other but with people who have recently become unemployed.
Husbands noted that the more educated a person is the less likely that person is liable to be unemployed.
"Whenever a crisis comes around, people with the least education, general are the ones laid of first. Even basic entry level jobs in the banking sector now goes to people with degrees, due to the large number of people who apply", Husbands said.
The senator stressed the importance of continuing training and education various disciplines.
Husbands made the comments during a symposium for secondary school students over the weekend.
