Dominica: The Dominica News Online reported that Dr. Thompson Fontaine, Former IMF Economist, has issued a statement in response to the recent law suit filed against him by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, for allegedly starting allegations that Skerrit was involved in the selling or granting of a Dominica passport to a notorious Indian national, Darwood Ibrahim, among other matters.
The claim filed at the high Court in Roseau, concerns the allegation of sales of passports, parallel programmes, and conspiracies with international terrorists.
Dr. Fontaine in a statement said that Dominica’s future is under threat, with a declining economy, rampant unemployment and escalating crime and “…the Prime minister who is accountable to the Dominican public, has chosen instead to hide behind a certain senior counsel whose only role is defend his client through a series of lies and half truths. I say to you the people of Dominica, the Prime Minister of Dominica does not need protection from the truth. But rather, in the interest of the country, he needs to own up to the truth”.
According to the report Dr. Fontaine said in the statement, “The people of Dominica, I come to you with nothing more to offer but my knowledge and experience and an overriding urge to speak truth to power. Several months ago I told the Dominican public of an economic citizenship programme that has gone horribly wrong. For speaking out, I have been vilified and now allegedly sued by my own government. From the very beginning my quest has been for the government of Dominica to come clean about its role in the sale of Dominican passports and what several websites call quick citizenship. Rather than respond honestly to my queries, the Government of Dominica is attempting to silence me”.
