St. John’s Antigua: A National Draft Policy on Ageing has been presented to the Ministry of Health, according to a report in the Antigua Observer.
Master of the Fiennes Institute, Alton Forde, was instrumental in the drafting of the document and said that once approval is received from Cabinet, an action plan will be developed to implement it, the Observer said.
Forde said administrative and legislative recommendations were addressed in the document as well as the need for the development of mechanisms for quality care. After consultations with 30 stakeholders, the policy was drafted and is now awaiting Cabinet’s approval, according to the Observer
Forde explained that with an increased need for services for the elderly, the policy seeks to not only see that those are provided but also controlled.
Once approved, the document is expected to be incorporated into domestic law, the Observer reported.
