Dramatic end to extradition hearing

 Bridgetown.

Jonh Wayne Scantlebury,Sean Gaskin and Frederick Hawkesworth were remanded to HMP Dodds yesterday by Chief Magistrate Clyde Nicholls.

Scantlebury, Gaskin and Hawkesworth are accused of being part of a quintet that conspired to manufacture and distribute more than five kilos of cocaine into the United States,between January 1999 and March 2004.

The case, the longest extradition hearing ever in a court in Barbados, began in May, 2004 after the United States issued provisional arrest  warrants for the three men.

Yesterday, in the District A Magistrates Court, Chief Magistrate Clyde Nicholls brought the hearing to an end when he committed the three accused men to HMP Dodds.

Attorneys for the accused, Ralph Thorne QC and Hal Gollop told Trakker News that they will be taking the matter to the High Court for a judicial of the Chief Magistrate's decision.
