Foulis, East Coast Demerara– A youth from Foulis on the East Coast Demerara, attempted suicide yesterday after bursting his head open with a ceramic vase. The question on the minds of many in the area is clearly, was it him, or something else? TrakkerNews got first hand account of what transpired. Just two nights ago the teenager's home was invaded by bandits who stole valuables belonging to people worth some 350,000 dollars. Being a technician he repaired electronic devices and all were stolen. The police have since taken away evidence from the scene for finger print testing. A number of suspects were taken into custody for questioning. But what makes this story interesting is that the teenager attempted to take his own life yesterday, but his elder brother held unto him for almost two hours until he was tired and fell asleep. He had been drinking with friends after the robbery and huge loss left him stressed out. With all the screams and actions he performed during the attempted suicide, it was clear to many who witnessed the ordeal, that something may have possessed him. After hours of this behavior he calmed down. When he awoke, he knew nothing of what transpired. "It was if something had left his body", recalled the young man's mother, who was distraught to see her son in such a condition. This morning he was taken for a medical examination. But this is just one such case in the Foulis area. In the last 7 years there has been over 15 suicides in the housing scheme, all were young people between the ages of 15 to 25. Just last year, alcohol consumption led a youngster to kill his own brother following an argument. Residents in the area have often found it strange whenever these things happened. Parents of the victims find it hard to explain what caused their children to end their lives. There is no secret that the housing scheme was a Dutch plantation years ago and legend has it that the area was cursed with the Dutch man's blood. Similar behavior patterns were experienced by the other victims who were not lucky to survive. TrakkerNews will endeavor to track this most interesting story as residents are willing to tell of their sad experiences.
