Berbice: A day after his speeding car hit and killed an 8 year old and seriously injured a 9 year old, the driver surrendered to the police at Blairmont station, West Bank Berbice. Contrary to earlier reports that he fled the scene, the driver helped the children into a minibus with the intention of taking the children to the Fort Wellington Hospital when he had secong thoughts and escaped. According to reports the man went into hiding as relatives and other public spirited citizens went in search of him. The Honda sports car, PMM 8812 crashed into a fence after hitting the two children around 08:25 hours on Monday. The 8 year old girl, Jasmattie Ramnauth was reportedly killed on the spot, while he brother suffered severe injuries on the head and about the body. The authorities are expected to charge the driver for causing death by dangerous driving.
