Eight of the ten passengers arrested at the Grantley Adams International Airport a week ago on a Caribbean Airlines flight from Jamaica were jailed yesterday.
The sentences on charges of drugs trafficking,importation, illegal possession and possession with intent to supply were handed down when nine of the ten smugglers appeared at the District B Boarded Hall Magistrates Court.
Romel Smith,of Grazettes, New Road, St Michael pleaded not guilty, he was offered bail and will return to the court on October 31.
The court handed down minimum sentences to Jamaicans Lemard Martin, Sheldon Christie, Hector White, Nicardo Gordon, Deshawn Cambell, Casavia Walker and Christopher Garrett.
Barbadian Gregory Desantos, was jailed for 24 months, according to the police the group swallowed 600 packets of cannabis with a total weight of 13 pounds before flying into Barbados.
A tenth person is still at a medical facility under observation.
