Georgetown- An East Indian man in his late 30's was today sentenced to 3 months in prison after he attempted to murder his wife of 9 years while she slept last evening. The woman whose name is Leila recalled that she was forced out of her sleep after she felt someone trying to suffocate her with a pillow. After she noticed it was her husband who came home in drunken state , she fought him off only to be met with more attacks, At one stage she said he picked up a knife and tried to stab her. She ran out of the house shouting for help. The matter was reported and the abusive husband was taken into custody. She said that she works all day while he consumes alcohol most of the time. He is always demanding money and is often abusive only this time things got worse. The couple have a 9 year old son. While justice was done the woman is scared about what he might do to her when he gets out of prison. She was advised to get a restraining order out against him during that time and seek alternative accommodation.
