Port-of-Spain: It’s a double for Duane O'Connor as he has dethroned Karene Asche to cop the 2012 Calypso Monarch title.
Just last week O'Connor won the Young Calypso Kings competition.
On Sunday the Calypso heavyweights squared off at the Queens Park Savannah but only one could emerge on top.
Overwhelmed with emotion he emerged on stage to collect his first prize of $1 million.
Coming in second was Kurt Allen while defending champion Karene Asche placed third.
Meanwhile, an elegant show of craftsmanship and pageantry as the Carnival King and Queen competition took place at the Queen's Park Savannah on Sunday night.
At the end of the night, representing the Mc Farlane Mas Band, Chariss Bovell was crowned the Queen of Carnival with her presentation "Mother of Humanity- The Weeping Madonna."
In the King's category, even with stiff competition, Roland St George came out on top.
His presentation was entitled Ralliez-Vous A Mon Panache Blanch.
St George edged Brian Mc Farlanes' ‘The Praying Mantis’, displayed by Gerard Weekes by three points.
