Earl of Wessex address joint sitting of Parliament

The Earl of Wessex addressed a joint sitting of Parliament in the  Senate Chamber  this morning, he said it was a honour to represent his mother the Queen, in a country which he had visted about ten times.

"Barbados continues to show that it is a model small island state which hold a special place in the Queen's heart", Prince Edward told the Chamber.

He also commended Barbados on the recent UNECO listing of Bridgetown and its historic Garrison as a world heritage site, saying " this is symbolic of how much the country has grown".

After addressing the joint sitting of  Parliament,  Prince Edward and his wife Princess Sophie, paid a  visit to  the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies.

The Royal Couple arrived in Barbados this morning from St Lucia aboard the yacth Rosalie.

They were met at the Bridgetown Port  by acting Governor General Elliott Belgrave, Prime Minister Freundel Stuart and other Ministers.

The Prince and Princess offical visit to the island is part of Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
