Residents reported feeling slight tremors yesterday afternoon as a 3.1 magnitude earthquake occurred just south of the capital.
The University of the West Indies’ Seismic Research Centre said the quake hit around 3:59 p.m at a depth of 38 kilometres in the Gulf of Paria.
Its location put it 11 kilometres south of Port of Spain, 26 kilometres southwest of Arima, and 34 kilometres north of San Fernando.
The Seismic Centre said the earthquake was reportedly felt in Maraval, Petit Valley and St. Augustine.
