East Canje widow robbed at gun point

Berbice: Police at Reliance, East Canje, are looking for three men who invaded the home of a widow in the area and robbed her at gunpoint Sunday evening.

Three masked men invaded the home of Sookrie Ramkhishun, 54, as she was sitting in a hammock under her house eating her dinner. Ramkhishun explained that she was facing the street when she saw three persons approaching her gate.

Before she could have reacted, the men entered the yard and ordered her to stay quiet or they would be forced to shoot her. The woman said the masked men who carried two guns grabbed her, placed a gun to her head, and one covered her mouth with his hands.

The men then attempted to stuff a cloth in her mouth to ensure she stayed quiet, but she promised not to scream for help and they took her word. After asking a series of questions, the bandits stripped the woman of her jewellery and ransacked the house. They carted off a bag containing documents such as passports, Identification cards, birth and death certificates, 11 pennyweights of gold, jewellery, a digital camera, cell phone and an iPod plus $38,000 in cash which belongs to a relative.

Even though she was not beaten by the bandits, the woman said she is currently experiencing intense pains in her stomach.
