Education Ministry receives $2.4 m worth of sport equipment from Chinese Embassy

Georgetown – Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China Mr. Yu Wenzhe on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Georgetown handed over $2.4M worth of sport gears and equipment to the Education Ministry to further enhance the development of physical education and sports in schools.

Minister Baksh who received the donation said sports is vital to the development of the mind and physical activity of a child.
He noted that the donation will be distributed to each educational district nationwide, more particularly to the eight dormitories in Guyana where students can occupy their time on the weekends to be involved in sports.
He pointed out that the Ministry is expanding physical education across the country and many schools are now being prepared to deliver the physical education and sports curriculum.
 Baksh also expressed profound gratitude to the Chinese for the donation and for their commitment towards youth and sports development.
Ambassador Wenzhe said that he was happy to hand over the equipment that include badminton, basketball, football, and table tennis.
Wenzhe challenged the recipients of the donation to use the gear for its intended purpose and to work overtime to excel in the field of sports.
