West Indian middle order batsman Kirk Edwards is Barbados' Sports Personality of the Year, the 27 year old cricketer had an outstanding year in international cricket in 2011.
He made 110 on his test debut in the second inninngs of third Test against India at Roseau, Dominica, thus becoming the 14th West Indian to score a century on debut and joining, the late Sir Conrad Hunte, Gordon Greenidge and Dwayne Smith as the only Barbadians to score centuries on debut .
Edwards had a good tour Bangladesh and India in the latter part of 2011, scoring a 121 in the second Test against Bangladish and performed admirably notching two half centuries in difficult conditions.
Edwards has been appointed captain of the Barbados team for all regional tournaments this year, he says it is an honour to be choosen to lead his country.
"I know the responsibility which is being placed on my shoulders and I am ready for the challenge", Edwards said.
After receiving the news that he was the Sports Personality of the Year, Edwards says it is a good feeling to be chosen.
"I have never been named Sports Personality of the year before, so this is a new experience and i am very grateful for this achievement", Edwards said.
