Electricity cost too high says businessman

Bridgetown.

A leading Barbadian businessman Sir David Seale thinks the cost of electricity  is too high, he is calling on the Government to conduct an efficiency audit of the  Barbados Light & Power's (BL&P) operations.

According to Sir David, the island's lone power plant has virtually become law unto itself and should be audited to show the true cost of producing electricity on the island.

"The Light & Power can get an increase in rates based on cost and that is the end of it. They are guaranteed a profit by the system", says Sir David.

"We the consumers, whether  commercial or industrial  are paying the price for that, and i think it is time that the Barbados Govenment calls for an efficiency audit of the cost of producing electricity by the Light & Power Company, because at the end of the day, they may probably find they can produce it a lot cheaper", he added.

Sir David the of Foursquare  Rum Distillery was speaking at a Press Conference marking the 15th anniversary of the company.
