Nurses and doctors working at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) would soon be able to access patients' medica records electronically.
Chief Executive Officer of the QEH Dr Dexter James told Trakker News the process would involve more than 400,000 records.
"The first order of business would be to bring these records under a unique identifier for patients, which is the project that is now on the table.We are at the stage of completing the evaluation of tenders which would soon be awarded", James revealed.
He said that this must take place before they can move towards electionic medical records and the Hospital Information System (HIS). Once they have digitised their medical records,various departments such as the laboratory, the pharmacy, teleradiology and some of the other proprietary systems that they can now interface with each other.
James added that the ultimate aim is to take full advantage of how information and communications technologies that can enhance the services the QEH offers to the public. .
