Embargo against Cuba should be lifted says Prime Minister

Bridgetown.

Prime Minister of Barbados Freundel Stuart has reiterated hs call for the embargo against Cuba to be lifted.

Speaking in the House of Assembly yesterday during a resolution recognising 40 years of diplomatic relations between Barbados and Cuba, Stuart said the embargo against Cuba has outlived its usefulness and should be lifted.

"The people of Cuba have suffered enough. They are not guilty of any offences, all they have done is to dare to think differently", Stuart said.

Stuart stated that this is a position he made clear when he addressed the United Nations General Assembly last year and during the Mexico-CARICOM Summit held in Barbados earlier this year.

He emphasized that Barbados has a special  relationship with Cuba and led the initiative to establish diplomatic relations between the Spanish speaking country and the islands of the English speaking Caribbean in the 1970s.
