The Barbados Employers Confederation (BEC) has cautioned the Barbados Workers Union (BWU) to be reasonable in its salary and wage negotiations with Cable and Wireless Barbados Limited.
"We at the BEC are extremely concern at the wage demands of the BWU for a double digit percentage increase over the proposed three year term covering the period 2009 to 2011, in tis current economic climate", the BEC said in a statement issued last night.
The BEC said given the delicate of the economy at this time and the exhoration from the Governor of the Central Bank at the recently concluded meeting on February 3, 2012 that our national focus must be maintaining stability in our economic affairs; It is our opinion that the wages demand by the BWU requires a significant downward modification.
Another private sector organization, the Barbados Chamber of Commerce, has also expressed concerns over the BWU demand for a double digit increase for Cable and Wireless workers.
